Last night I had an explosion of flavours on my palate. Its been some time since I visited Than Binh http://www.thanhbinh.com.au/ in Newtown and so glad i did. My friend and i had a craving for a Bun dish but unfortunately this was on the 'Lunch' menu only and not a dinner course. But the kind waiter asked if we did want one which of the Bun's would we want so i stated pork and my friend requested a vegie bun. They came back smiling after questioning the chef whether he would be kind enough to please two famished ladies.
We had a vegetarian Vietnamese pancake as an entree which was delicious followed by my lemongrass pork bun and a barley and seaweed drink.
The bun's were so yummy and big we couldn't get through the entire amount but did well in the end.
A highly recommended restaurant for good service and fantastic Vietnamese food in Newtown....A must try!

Sumalee Thai newtown
We are still not sure if Sumalee's oversized dishes and overpriced menu is worth it? We question this every time we dine here and in all honesty, i dont think it is.
They attempt new and exciting dishes that pushes the 'Thai' norm in order to be that little bit different but the success of this is starting to flake.
As stated by a colleague last night...."they don't even have a thai beef salad!". It has been said that a Thai beef salad is the key to a good thai restaurant and the fact that there is none on the menu says it all.
The food was fast and tasty but it certainly does not compete with the top shelf thai food from Sailors Thai in Sydney.
Good Luck Sumalee

The London Hotel in Paddington
Time and time again I seek to find not only the best pub meal in Sydney but also best Steak dinner in Sydney.
The London Hotel in Paddington never lets us down. Their 350 rib eye was perfectly medium rare and soft like cotton. A very tasty sause such as paris butter or the standard mushroom also goes a long way, with every morsel streaked with hot english mustard- just enough not to blow the roof off the inside of my nose.
The pizza's that are served on a square wooden board that frames the square cut pizza. They have the tastiest toppings of prawn and chorizo or a queen margarita with buffolo mozzarella and fresh tomatoes...but the real secret is the semolina that is dusted on the board which keeps it the crispiest pizza right til the last square.
The London is definitely a must try with reasonable prices for their quality of food. YUM!

Newtown Thai
Newtown Thai was once a delicious and affordable Thai restaurant in Newtown. Now its below average and an establishment I will not return to in a hurry.
My Po lak Seafood was very salty hence tasty but not satisfying. The Choo Chee curry was no curry at all but rather vegetables and tofu drenched in satay sauce with a touch of coconut milk.
This will be the last time after years of frequenting this restaurant.
A big fat thumbs down

Savichees Pyrmont
Savichees in Jackson's Landing Pyrmont was a pleasant cafe which ticks all the boxes for atmoshphere and setting.
Upon arrival they had given our previously booked table away to another party which was truly disappointing as it was the group setting at the front of the restaurant. When they realised the mistake was their own they continued to sit our party down at the back of the restaurant in the back outdoor area.
The coffee was passable and the food was tasty. The corn and zucchini fritters were very soft tasty and the rashes of bacon on top added the salty flavour that the dish required.
The rest of the table continued to enjoy a meal that was well worth the price that was paid for their meal. Not fabulous but again passable.

Four in Hand Paddington
The Four in Hand in Paddington has a bar menu that has to be one of the most tastiest and decadent pub menu's in Sydney. It was delicious and great quality for the price we paid.
All dishes were served on robust chopping board spread across the table, which I loved.
Roast Bone Marrow With Celeriac Remoulade and Grilled Bread - was perfectly salty and accompanied by a remoulade (that appeared like a coleslaw salad) balanced the flavours perfectly. This dish came with large chunks of grilled bread to spread the marrow across.
Hand Cut Rosemary Potato Wedges With Sour Cream & Sweet Chili - had the sour cream splattered across the board. The potatoes were perfectly cooked inside and out. They were very mourish and delicious.
The Spanish White Anchovies With Sourdough Croutons were more than we could ask for. They were soft and tasty with more grilled bread.
Finally we tried the pork belly on toast and the texture was almost pate styled pork, a little gooey and intense.
To top it all off we had a delicious Pinto Noir from Central Otago called Totara ...
All this for around 30 dollars each...
This is definitely an eatery that I will be anxious to come back to...YUM!
